Foundations of a good mental health routine

While it may not seem like a big deal to stick to a routine each day, it can actually represent expectations and patterns that are important components of good mental health. In fact, routines can create a positive level of stress, helping individuals stay focused and avoid depression and/or anxiety.
There are a number of reasons routines are important. They create structure and give us a sense of accomplishment. Even small routines like showering, brushing our teeth, and dressing are important parts of our day. Routines also indicate to people around us of how we are doing. If we suddenly stop doing the things we would normally do, that signals that there is something potentially wrong.
There are very simple routines to organize your day and help with your mental health, including:
Wake up at the same time each day
Shower/keep personal hygiene as if you were going out
Dress for the day (even in casual attire)
Eat meals at regular times
Keep a daily schedule of exercise
Take time to meditate or relax
Limit your use of electronic devices or TV
Go to bed at the same time each night
